Which type of dungarees suits you? 🧭

Not all dungarees serve the same purpose. At La Salopette®, we sort them by type of dungarees, so you do not have to scroll through hundreds of models. Here is how to find your way in a few lines, with the collection matching each family.

There are two good ways in: the use and the cut. Pick one of the two and the fabric follows on its own. The wrong way in is colour: the model you like in a photo rarely matches what you are going to do with it, or your build.

By fabric 👖

The denim dungarees are the timeless classic, in denim of 280 to 320 GSM that ages beautifully. The corduroy dungarees take over as soon as temperatures drop: softer, warmer, dressier. The vintage dungarees pick up the codes of the nineties, with washes and wide cuts, for anyone who wants a piece with history.

To choose between two fabrics, the best marker is GSM (grams per square metre). Our fabrics run from 280 to 320 GSM:

• 280 GSM: soft from day one, comfortable when it is warm.
• 300 GSM: the compromise, dense enough without being stiff.
• 320 GSM: the toughest, stiff at first and then it moulds to your build.

Below 250 GSM you leave the garment that lasts. Above 340 GSM it starts getting in the way when you move.

By cut 📐

Want room and freedom of movement? The wide leg dungarees are drawn loose from the start. Prefer a defined silhouette? The fitted dungarees follow the lines without pulling. For summer, the dungaree shorts cut everything short. And if you are after a full leg rather than classic dungarees, the trouser dungarees bridge the two. Sizes beyond XXL find their place in our plus size collection, which goes up to 8XL.

The dungaree dress is the exception: no legs, a skirt, the same back with adjustable straps. Two markers on cut: a wide cut lengthens as long as the leg opening stays clean, and short dungarees always ride up a centimetre or two with wear. Whichever type you land on, our accessories finish the silhouette.

By use 🛠️

If the dungarees have to take the work first, the work dungarees are cut for exactly that: thick fabrics, useful pockets, reinforced seams. For hunting and long days outdoors, our hunting dungarees favour muted tones. And if you are in a hurry, Express Delivery gathers the models that reach you across Europe in 3 to 6 working days.

A pair that works gives way at the knees, in the pocket bag and at the crotch; a pair worn in town wears out mostly in the wash. Simple test if you are torn: count how many times a day you crouch down. Past ten, choose by use, not by style.

The details to check before ordering 🔧

On a screen you cannot feel the fabric. So always look at the same four points:

• The bib height: too low and it protects nothing, too high and it rides up your neck the moment you sit down.
• The fastenings: if you unclip your straps several times a day, metal is the only sensible choice.
• The front zip: without one, a loo break means undressing completely.
• The crotch: tension point number one. A triple seam changes everything on lifespan.

Getting your size right first time 📏

The rule is simple: start from the size of your usual trousers, not from your chest measurement. Adjustable straps make up 5 to 8 cm, so the mistake is rarely in the length and almost always in the waist.

The reading changes with the type: a fitted cut is taken in your exact size, a wide cut takes a size up, and work dungarees are chosen roomy because they go over another layer. Beyond XL, the plus size dungarees are cut for it, not simply scaled up.

One care tip to finish, valid for every type: wash at 30 °C inside out and avoid the tumble dryer. Thick cotton barely shrinks (under 2 %) as long as it never goes in hot. That is the difference between dungarees that last three seasons and dungarees that last ten.
