Q: What does men's size 52 correspond to?

French size 52 corresponds to an XL at La Salopette®, i.e. a waist circumference between 102 and 110 cm.

Q: What does 4XL mean and which FR size does it match?

4XL corresponds to FR size 60 (waist circumference 126 to 134 cm, chest circumference 142 to 150 cm). For larger sizes, we offer up to 8XL in men's and women's.

Q: Is women's size 44 an L or an XL?

Women's size 44 sits between L and XL. If your waist circumference is between 86 and 94 cm take L. Between 94 and 102 cm, take XL.

Q: I wear Levi's 32, what size do I take from you?

Levi's 32 = 32 inches = approximately 81 cm waist circumference = our size S. Multiply your Levi's number by 2.54 to get cm.

Q: Do the dungarees shrink in the wash?

Very little if you wash at 30°C inside out and without tumble dryer. Shrinkage remains under 2%.

Q: I'm pregnant, can I wear dungarees?

Yes. Adjustable straps and ample bib. In the first trimester keep your size, afterwards take 1 to 2 sizes up.

Q: What's the minimum and maximum height?

Recommended height 1m55 to 2m05. Outside this range, contact us to check inseam length.

Good to know: our fits tend to run medium-small, especially from XL onwards. If you're between two sizes, always go for the larger one. This guide is a general reference; for the most accurate value, check the weight range displayed next to each size variant on the product page (each fit may run very slightly differently).

Remember: if your waist circumference falls on the upper limit (for example 94 cm), choose the size above (L rather than M). You'll have more ease and the dungarees will fit better over a t-shirt.

Women's chart calibrated on the Wide-Leg Denim Dungarees Jenny® and the family of women's cuts with embroidered logo. Correspondence FR (32 to 58), EU and US sizes. Hip circumference is important for fitted cuts at the pelvis. The indicative weight column is an average range for heights from 1m60 to 1m75.

How to take your measurements

For accurate measurements, ask someone to help you and keep the measuring tape parallel to the ground, neither too tight nor too loose. Measure yourself in underwear or with close-fitting clothes.

Precise advice by model

A few particularities to know

Men's cuts that run small from XL onwards: Men’s Workshop Dungarees and Work Dungarees Lumberjack (thick denim pair). If you weigh 80 kg or more, take one size up from what the calculator recommends. Confirmed on REVER returns (66% of returns = too small).
Additional small-fit men's cut: Work Dungarees in Brown Corduroy. For this model, take one size up from L onwards. Confirmed on REVER returns.
White Stripe Dungarees: runs very small, take 2 sizes up.
Other denim dungarees (Raw, White, light Vintage): true to size, follow the chart strictly.
Corduroy dungarees: fall a bit more fitted than denim, take your usual size or one up if wearing over a thick jumper.
Short dungarees (shorts, dungaree skirt): follow waist circumference as priority, length is standardised.
Adjustable straps: all our dungarees have straps allowing you to gain or lose 5 to 8 cm on the bust and inseam. Handy for body shapes between two sizes.
Winter layering: if wearing your dungarees over a thick jumper or flannel shirt, take one size up to maintain ease.
Express Collection: Express models arrive in 3 to 6 days in France. If unsure, these are the quickest to exchange in case of wrong size.

What does men's size 52 correspond to?

French size 52 corresponds to an XL at La Salopette®, which means a waist circumference between 102 and 110 cm. It's also equivalent to an EU 54 and a US XL.

What does 4XL mean and which FR size does it match?

4XL corresponds to FR size 60 (waist circumference 126 to 134 cm, chest circumference 142 to 150 cm). For sizes above 4XL, we offer up to 8XL in both men's and women's.

Is women's size 44 an L or an XL?

Women's size 44 sits between L and XL with us. If your waist circumference is between 86 and 94 cm, take L. Between 94 and 102 cm, take XL.

What's the difference between XL and XXL?

8 cm of waist circumference. Men's XL covers 102 to 110 cm waist, XXL covers 110 to 118 cm. For women: XL 94 to 102 cm, XXL 102 to 110 cm.

How do I measure my waist correctly?

Stand upright, feet together, tape measure at the natural point of your waist (above the navel, between the last rib and top of the pelvis). Keep the tape horizontal and flat against the skin. For a comfortable fit, add 2 to 3 cm to your raw measurement.

What should I do if I'm between two sizes?

Take the size up. Our dungarees are worn over a t-shirt or shirt, so a bit of ease is appreciated. The adjustable straps also compensate for the inseam.

My measurements don't match a single size (e.g. chest M and waist L), what do I do?

Choose the size that corresponds to the largest measurement. Since chest circumference is fixed, we often prioritise that. If in doubt, contact Laura at contact@la-salopette.fr with your 3 measurements, and we'll recommend the best option.

I wear Levi's 32 / Lee 34 / another brand, what size do I take from you?

US jean size (in inches) corresponds to your waist circumference in inches. Levi's 32 = 32 inches waist = approximately 81 cm = our S. Levi's 34 = 86 cm = our M. Levi's 38 = 96 cm = our L. Multiply the number by 2.54 to get cm.

If I order the wrong size, can I exchange it?

Yes, exchange or return with voucher (with 10% bonus) via our returns portal. You have 14 days after receipt. If we have the new size in stock, we'll send it to you via express delivery 3 to 6 days in France.

Do the dungarees shrink in the wash?

Very little. Wash in machine at 30°C inside out, no tumble dryer. Shrinkage is less than 2% if you follow these instructions. Avoid the tumble dryer which can cause 1 to 2 cm loss on the inseam.

What's the minimum/maximum height to wear your dungarees?

Recommended height: 1m55 to 2m05. Below 1m55, the inseam may be too long (our minimum 70 cm). Above 2m, the inseam may be a bit short (our maximum 102 cm on 8XL). For these extreme cases, contact us, we often have a solution.

I'm pregnant, can I wear dungarees?

Yes, it's one of the advantages of dungarees: the adjustable straps allow you to gain 5 to 8 cm in length, and the loose cut of the bib adapts to a rounded belly. In the first trimester, keep your usual size. In the second and third, take one to two sizes up depending on chest and waist circumference.

My weight fluctuates, should I take the size above to anticipate?

If your variation is less than 5 kg, take your current size, the straps compensate. Beyond 8 kg of expected variation, take the size up to maintain comfort during periods of increase. You can always exchange within 14 days if the fit doesn't suit.

Does the size fit the same in corduroy as in denim?

Almost. Corduroy is slightly more fitted as the material has less stretch than denim. If in doubt, take your usual size. If you're wearing over thick layers (winter jumper), go up a size.

Are there size differences between colours or models?

All our standard models (Navy, Black, Raw, White) follow the same chart. Only models with a special cut differ: White Stripes runs small (take 2 sizes up), Brictown is slim, Vintage Fisher is relaxed. Check each product description, we always specify.

Can my teen (13-17) wear an adult size?

Yes, from 1m55 and 45 kg, adult XS is wearable. For a smaller teenager, we recommend waiting for a few cm of growth. Measure their waist circumference and compare to the chart.

I'm taller than 6'4", will the inseam be long enough?

For heights above 1m95, take a size up from your usual size to gain on the inseam (8XL maximum 102 cm). The straps still allow customisation. If you're over 2m, contact us, we sometimes have special length cuts.

Do your sizes follow the European EN 13402 standard?

Yes, our cm/letter correspondences follow the EN 13402-3 standard (unisex clothing). For French nuances (size 38, 40, 42...) we follow the common practices of French manufacturers.

Dungarees appeared in France in 1854, in the Lyon region, created by Adolphe Lafond for workers and farmers who needed a durable and functional garment. Designed loose to allow movement, they have crossed a century and a half of fashion to become today both an urban, practical and timeless garment.
